2/5/04: Hi, I am Aniruddha, I am gay and am so by choice. I have also been attracted to girls so could have, maybe, got myself into a heterosexual relationship - which in this country (I am Indian - any Indians out there?) is inevitably seen as a prelude to marriage. My choice is not just to oppose the cross-cultural status of marriage as a normative institution, but I would also like to see it as a feminist-motivated one. I know that historically, and in the contemporary context, many gay men use the rubrique of masculinity for self-validation, which marginalises other possible male identities and supports Patriarchy by suporting its gender formulations. I propose to critique Patriarchy - as much as I can - by refusing to take part in the performance of its gender/power divisons. Of course that is a tall - and possibly hypocritical - claim, but this profile is one small step.
